The Body Mass Index calculator, which is also known as the BMI calculator, is a tool that gives an estimate of a person's body fat percentage based on weight and height. A BMI calculator will be able to estimate whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese. BMI is measured in KG per meter squared.
It is important to take note of the fact that the BMI has flaws. It does not differentiate between muscle weight and fat weight. Therefore, a person who is very muscular can have a high BMI, despite the fact that he or she does not have a high body fat percentage. Additionally, many people who have normal BMIs still have high body fat percentages.
BMI
BMI (Body Mass Index) - is a measurement of body fat based on weight and
height for men and women adults.
BMI does not an actually measure body fat, but it is meant to be used as a simple means of
classifying physically inactive individuals with an average body composition.
BMI does not take into account individual factors such as frame size and muscularity among athletes. For more information on BMI, please see What is BMI.
BMI score represents a single measurement of health and does not signify an ultimate conclusion regarding a person's overall health. Individuals who are considered overweight by BMI standards may be perfectly healthy if they exercise and eat a well-balanced diet. Therefore, thin individuals are not necessarily healthier than overweight people, since the human body needs a certain amount of fat to function at peak level.
BMI Formula - BMI can be calculated using the formulas
For Imperial(US) measurements:
BMI = mass(lb) x 703 / height(in)2
For metric:
BMI = mass(kg) / height(m)2
Please consult a medical professional if you have any questions regarding your BMI.
